SUPER SAM AT SIXTY SIX TO ONE

West Berkshire racing club

A quite day at Saxon House stables, the grade II listed house nestled at the mouth of upper Lambourn, a visit to one of the new trainers on the block after a ten year stint in the saddle Sam Thomas, famed with the mighty Denman, and riding over 500 winners, the dual licenced trainer just over a full year now at the famous training establishment that once churned out great horses such as Manderin and Mill House under the guidance of the legendary Fulke Walwyn.
Sam Thomas
The 30 box yard on one of it's quite days was held guest to the West Berkshire racing club, a club in the past who have bought the winning wind to an establishment, this firmly explained to the young trainer who mentioned, ' I'd be happy with that can you start it in a few hours at Towcester, i have one running today.'

The former jockey who was quoted in the press a possibility of a return to the saddle a few months back, stayed on the ground on a bitterly cold morning at the Mandown gallops to watch three of his charges hack up the all weather, with other trainers strings in tow.

Sam coming across as the patient type, not one to rush his horses, but to get them right explained the benefit of training in Lambourn the heat of National Hunt racing. 'The majority of the gallops here are just right for jumpers, not too sharp, but long and steady enough for them to get a second wind when cantering or galloping, and better facilities are yet still to come here to help the village become the hub of the National Hunt game.'
The yard relaxed and friendly, seemed welcoming to a handful that walked in amongst the famous rafters to meet the horses.

Even if the trainer had to bolt off himself for the first at Towcester to saddle Royal Magic in the 2m 4 f novices hurdle, leaving his lucky guests to wander the yard.

The luck of the club, well in the title of the song 'Could it be Magic.' the horse romped home the winner.........
And oh yes, and at a price of 66/1
