PICTURESQUE GODSTONE WITH A BACK DROP TO WRITE HOME ABOUT PLAYS HOST TO THE SOUTHDOWN & ERIDGE


Only Cheltenham, the home of jump racing with its delightful backdrop of Prestbury Hill can beat the sight you get at the Surrey race track at Godstone.
The Southdown & Eridge hunt was host to a six race card on good to soft, soft in places ground.

The opener, a five runner 4,5,6 year old Open maiden



Again we speak to Dale Peters who had a successful day at the Essex Hunt meet at High Easter.

 Charlie Marshall takes the second event of the day, a 14 runner Conditions race, running at the start at the odds 5/1. And beating Summer Sounds off the 2/1 fav

Tough metal very much apparent with the next winner, the third race of the afternoon.  A 13 runner 3m 6f Mixed Open for the south East Grand National.
Man of Steel off through the tapes the 5.2 fav, for trainer Alan Hill and top female point to point rider Gina Andrews.

The Open maiden saw eight to post but only two taking the winning line.

Dry Bright Act trained by Sean Conway and ridden by Lewis Stones was sent off at a whopping 12/1 took the race well at eight lengths.

The only finisher in the Restricted set the duo of  Woods (Cynthia) & Marshall (Charlie) with a brace of winners for the day.

Florella at 6/1 stayed on, and jumped where the rest found it hard, to finish the race in her stride.

Velvet Cognac with second placed horse Indian Chance see top trainer pointing trainer Alan Hill and top pointing jockey Gina Andrews also take double bubble.

NO EGG ON THE FACE FOR THE ESSEX HUNT AS THEY TAKE OVER A GRAND HIGH EASTER SPRING MEETING




Big screens to watch the Grand National, seven point to point races, a big enthusiastic crowd...... And warm,dry weather.

No for sure, quality races before the evening main event at Aintree were on offer for the Essex Hunt meeting at High Easter.

Race 1, a ten runner Restricted run of soft ground, heavy in places.

Race 2, a six runner 3m6f Countryside Alliance members Conditions race




Won by 7/4 fav You too pet trained by Dale Peters and ridden by Harry Thorpe-Codman. The trainer finishing fourth on one of David Kemp's horses Will Fight.

The third race a seven runner 2m4f PPORA club members conditions race, saw the previous trainer ride a winner himself. Dale Peters on David Kemp's Caryto Des Brosses a good 7/1 shot beat the favourite In a Blue dust by 8 lengths.















The main race of the afternoon the Ladies open for the main feature of the East Anglian area The Warwick Vase.

The penultimate race saw a double for the afternoon for trainer David Kemp and Jockey Dale peters.

At 6/1 Law of gold bought home the nine runner Open maiden by three length's from Racing Eagle.


We have a chat to the trainer about his brace of winners and again to Dale after the win.

The closing race of the afternoon the seventh race of the day. A six runner Essex Hunt members race.

Was taken by a popular 11 year old that has taken this race back in 2016. That time with Gina Andrews on board Excitable Island trained by Nigel Padfield, this time ridden by Gina's brother Jack Andrews took the race easily by 12 lengths.
