UMBERLEIGH,UMBERLEIGH.THE FINALE OF THE POINTING SEASON

Umberleigh racecourse devon
As the final weekend of the season came about, so did the barmy heat of the summer to mark the week that summer officially arrives.
Six well declared races, an audience that came in their droves to attend the Torrington farmers point to point at Umberleigh.
The going classed as firm saw a good meeting to send the 2016-17 pointing season off on it's summer vacation.

The first race The Torrington farmers Hunt members race saw seven take the starters flag. Dean Summersby sending the 4/6 favorite Air Glider to post to come home the two length winner from Le Clo de la Londe.
Ridden by Darren Edwards, his last ride for the season, we chat to both trainer and jockey about the horse, and reflections on the season.

Give us Peace, trained by Teresa Clark. And ridden by young novice jockey Lucy Mager.
A poignant winner for the young jockey as the win placed her joint top of the Fullers Ladies novice riders championship with Izzie Marshall.
We chat to Lucy after the race about her winner and her season.

The mens open saw another first for the last day of the season as Daniel Cherriman bought home his new purchase in Churchfield Champ by twenty lengths from American Legend.
The professional Huntsman's first winner was greeted with great enthusiasm by his new owner, Trainer Kayley Woollacott, happy for the winner, but probably mixed emotions as the horse moves  to the owners home area near Pytchley  for the new season.
We chat to both trainer and jockey after the race.

The ladies championship well sown up a few weeks before the end of the season was again taken by the might of Gina Andrews, having as she mentions a superb season both pointing and under rules.
And it was again we see her brilliance as she brings home the winner of the ladies open 4/6 shot There's no Panic for the Micheal Biddick yard.
There's no Panic
Never stopping we manage to chat with Gina about her ride and her thoughts on the season before she is whisked off to ride in the penultimate race of the day.

Fourstar River
The final race of the day, and of the season was an Open Maiden, in my find fitting enough as i feel we have seen some quality maidens over the season, which will make for interesting racing in the new season. Also due to the ground being so dry over the past few months we may have not seen the full impact of some also ran's in the Maiden class, a season on with maiden classification still in tact we may also see another good year for the novices.
The five runner maiden on this count was taken by the Maria Lewis trained Sullivan's John, boyfriend Lee Drowne on board..
We chat to owner David Lewis and the Jockey after the race.
