THE OLD SURREY,BURSTOW WEST KENT AT PENHURST22-4-17



With two meetings but aside for the season with ground not being able to get water on therm over the past week or two, Larkhill and Upper Sapey. Penhurst did the owners of the course and the volunteers a remarkable job to secure a safe surfacre for all to work on.

Tim Underwood's Kicker King
The first race an open maiden event saw four runners go to post, the 4/6 fav Tim Underwood's Kicker King taking the race well by twenty lengths from Martin Wanless's Big Man Doe.

The next a conditions race saw again four under starters orders.
The trainer of the last race winner Tim Underwood sending the favourite Cheltenham Mati down at evens.
The winner from a yard in good form at present Ed Turner with Franks a Million ridden by Rupert Stearn.

Phil york on the favourite having to sit a number of mistakes from the Underwood's decent five year old, saw the ten year old Turner horse take the race by two lengths, the errors certainly costing the younger horse his third win of the season.

The third race of the afternoon was a match for the ladies open prize. Louise Allen still jubilant from her success the previous weekend on board Bavard Court for the Turners and Tabatha Worsley on board Rose Grissel's Wor Rom.

The later thirteen year old, going off at 4/6 fav only put two lengths in between him and his only other competitor, so we had a chat to Tabatha after receiving her magnificent reward for taking the race

Sadly though the Men's Open only had one declared, causing a walkover for Petra New's very handy pointer and Hunter Chase winner The Ferbane Man, ridden by Shane Roche.

we chat to Petra and Shane after the race to discuss the next plans for the talented thirteen year old and how their season has progressed.

The penultimate race a Restricted event saw again only two go to post. Sarah Humphrey's sending her seven year old Legend to be on the back of a win last weekend at Higham off the 6/4 outsider with Richard (Dickie) Collinson on board.

The final race of the afternoon also was a dual Carry on Asian from the Francesca Nimmo yard off the back of a double at Hackwood last weekend and local horse See you jack ridden by owner,trainer Beth Mellish.
With great cheer from the local crowd it was the twelve year old See you Jack that was left alone to complete the course and take the prize home for the young dairy farmer jockey,owner and trainer.
